Services and Programs
The Pacific Center is a grassroots volunteer—based Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community center founded in 1973 in response to a gay bashing incident and now home to LGBTQ youth and adults of all genders, abilities, and ethnic, cultural, socio—economic, educational, and religious backgrounds. To serve the Center’s mission to “counteract the toxic effects of homo/bi/transphobias” we offer comprehensive health promotion, wellness education, and community services. Programs include LOUD, a youth leadership and empowerment program; a sliding—scale clinic providing mental health counseling and HIV counseling and prevention services; peer support groups; community—building activities; educational seminars; a youth and adult speakers’ bureau for safer schools and workplaces; and an information resource center and referral line. With a staff of 6 and over 180 volunteers, we serve more than 400 people a week, including 375 youth and 995 mental health clients per year.
