Services and Programs

Serving 6,000 visitors each week, the Center provides groundbreaking social service, public policy, educational, cultural and recreational programs designed to nurture and empower LGBT people. In addition, one of the Center's prime functions is to provide affordable meeting space for LGBT organizations-currently over 300 meet here regularly-many of which would otherwise have no place to go. The Center's Mental Health and Social Services programs address public health issues by a combination of prevention, intervention, and support services. Our clients come to us with wide range pressing issues such as substance abuse, HIV-related concerns, bereavement, transgender issues, coming out matters, and various other mental health needs. Our Gender Identity Project offers transgender people an opportunity to discover and acknowledge who they are while building community. Our Youth Enrichment Services program is a dynamic community building program dedicated to helping young people develop self-esteem, reducing the isolation faced by many lesbian and gay teenagers, and supporting them in developing job-related skills. By focusing on innovative perormances and exhibitions that are of interest to the LGBT community, our Cultural Programs department strives to celebrate the richness, complexity, diversity of our communities while also supporting LGBT artists who might not be able to present their work through traditional, mainstream venues. The Center remains the only LGBT-specific cessation resource group in the New York metropolitan area. If you’ve been trying to quit, but didn’t know how or where to begin, the Center is here to help you. The LGBT SmokeFree Project is a series of workshops for LGBT smokers (tobacco). The Center's Public Policy and Government Relations Department offers issues forums to illuminate themes that are of interest to LGBT people, and advocates at the city, state and federal levels to promote policies that take into consideration the needs of the LGBT community. The Center also has a David Bohnett CyberCenter.
