ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND AND PROGRAMS: Based in Houston, LHI, a 501(c)(3), established in 1992, is dedicated to eliminating barriers to healthcare and promoting health and wellness for LGBT-identified women and transgender men through three distinct and integrative program areas: Education, Access and Advocacy. LHI has incorporated the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into each of its program areas. LHI's Access Program includes biannual multi-provider healthcare resource, screening clinic and gateway to permanent medical home, branded as LHI’s Health Fairs. Registered uninsured and under-insured LGBT women and transgender men have access to no-cost screenings that address areas of increased health risks, including breast and cervical cancer, diabetes, heart & vascular disease and skin cancer. Screenings include mammograms, pap/well-person exams, body and skin scans, FOBT, heart and vascular risk assessments, blood screenings and flu shots. In addition, beginning in November 2013, LHI has added Health Insurance Marketplace education and enrollment programs. To address the lack of medical school training and help clinicians better understand, engage and care for their lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patients and their families, LHI has developed and delivers an introductory LGBT Cultural Competency Training session. The session is titled LGBT Cultural Competency 101 – Tools to Improve Patient Communication, Care and Outcomes. LHI's growing list of LHI Health Fair and referral healthcare partnerships include: *Houston Area Community Services/HACS (FQHC), Legacy Community Health Services (FQHC)* UT MD Anderson Cancer Center (multiple departments including mobile mammography, dermatological oncology and clinical trials) *The Rose (breast health imaging, diagnostics and navigation to treatment) *Texas Heart Institute (cardio-vascular health care) *San Jose Clinic (safety net primary/specialty care) *Montrose Center (behavioral health services) *Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast (education/reproductive health services) *Memorial Hermann - Neighborhood Health Centers (Primary Care) *CVS/Caremark - (education, pharmacy and MinuteClinics) *Costco *Harris Health System (Harris County hospitals) *City of Houston Department of Health & Human Services, *Texas Department of State Health Services.
